new show

I am back from a trip to London and Dublin, got to see the Pop Life show at Tate Modern, the National Portrait Gallery, went to As You Like It at the Shakespeare Globe Theatre and saw Matt Lucas (from Little Britain) on stage in Prick Up Your Ears, went to Kensington Palace, had a nosebleed at the Orangery, and stuff like that. I loved it.

Now I'm in the studio around the clock preparing for a solo show at AXIS Gallery in Calgary, opens October 24. I'll post new woodcuts.

My Cube is covered in snow, all the green leaves are frozen on the trees, it's all so disturbing but I'm driving to Banff on Saturday and it's supposed to be +21 so we'll see how the cube does in slushfest '09.

Artmobile + Dublin + Sugar Shack

Hello there cubists, I have been busy recently, I finished restoring my '63 Airstream Bambi for an artmobile and we shot a short film about a group of charlatans who travel town to town offering surgical beautification procedures in their mobile operating room ca. 1969. My Cube was a support vehicle as we filmed on a farm in Okotoks over two days. There were more than 50 people involved, two HD cameras, a 12 foot jib, catering, and so on, it was spectacular. Now to editing and we'll submit it to all the film festivals.

Also I rented a hundred year old "cottage" backing onto a giant park three blocks away from my house with two other artists, Jane grace and Angie Inglis, for an art salon, the Sugar Shack. We have been fixing it up and organizing and it is set to debut by the end of September/ early October.

I have been seeing Cubes everywhere in Calgary, Em honked at me on the 14 St bridge the other day. Hi Em!

There was a seat sale to London so I am off for ten days and will check out Dublin as well. hurray hurray!

I will try to upload some photos right now. I tried before but couldn't get it to work, so wish me luck.

FREITAG

Since the Cube came already maxed out with alloy wheels, push button ignition, six speakers, and everything, I have been looking for other "accessories" and found Freitag, a Swiss company that makes bags out of used truck tarps, seatbelts, airbags and bicycle tubes.

I bought a JOE: hi-function midvolume messenger in red and white. It is kind of stinky (truck tarp, you know) but lovable.

Sofia the Boston Terrier in her new Cube

Stadium Nissan let me drive away with a new Cube on Monday evening, just like that. In the passenger seat is Sofia the Boston Terrier, she has big plans for the tan interior.

I like the built-in Peter's Drive-in onion ring holders.

I had to decide on a name for the new Cube. I think it's a boy like my last car the 68 Ford Ltd (Randal). Then my wee mum noticed the license plate starts with SZY so she named him Suzy.
