photojunkie's blog

Austin bound

It's been forever and I've been really bad at updating over here, so many things have changed in my life and basically I felt like the rug was pulled from under me. But things are about to change again and I hope to be posting here  regularly again, probably even more so, to catch up.

Anyway, I'm about to embark on my biggest Cube roadtrip to date. Driving out to PEI and the Cabot Trail over the Labour Day weekend last year was pretty epic, but this time I'll be heading down to Austin, TX. for SXSW. I'll likely be tweeting a lot from @photojunkie, but I'll also be using my Cube twitter account @JPCube so follow along if you wanna see my Cube in the wilds of America.

Cubespotting on Google Map Streetview

Cubespotting via Google Map Streetview

So Google released it's Canadian Street Views on Google Maps today. Of course the first thing you want to check out is where you live. From checking out my place in Toronto and my parents place in Markham, it seems like the images were captured mostly this summer or early spring, in fact I can almost figure out the approximate week that they captured my house, by the amount of garbage that was in front of my house, because of the garbage strike this past summer.

Of course the next thing I wanted to check out, was to see if I could find any Cubes along the road, perhaps event my own. What I did find was a Red Cube that my friend Duarte had as a loaner back in July.

Cube Party for your iPhone

Cube Party

I recently discovered that Nissan USA created a Nissan Cube game for the iPhone. A big part of the American marketing campaign is calling the Cube a mobile device (pun intended I'm sure). Of course, I had to check out the game myself, which was also available on the Canadian iPhone App store.

Colour selection screen

One of the first screens is Cube customization, so of course I choose to make mine Ocean Surf blue, just like my own Cube.

I have an exhibit opening this week at Fat Cat Wine Bar (331 Roncesvalles Ave) in Toronto. If you are in the area swing on by and check out my panorama pictures on the wall.

The opening is on Thursday September 10th, between 7pm to 10pm.

#EastCoastCube Road Trip : Making a break for it. Or trying to

Last fall, I made my first trip out to the east coast to attend a conference on Prince Edward Island. I knew, even then, that I wanted to return to the gentle island again, in warmer weather. But who knew it would be so soon.

Visiting fellow cubist, Mark Stevenson on Prince Edward Island made for the perfect excuse to do another east coast roadtrip. So earlier this week, I made the choice to go and decided to invite Jasin Dollin along for the ride.

We hit the road at 6 am on Thursday morning. After initial stops for breakfast and coffees we made our way eastbound along the 401 towards PEI. But of course, Ontario wouldn't let us go so quickly. We made our first "official" stop at the Big Apple, to shoot the panorama above.
