toronto

hey you in Toronto?

in my cross country adventure I have seen a lot, and I almost forgot my CUBE CROSSING in Toronto!  Who was it? While driving into Downtown Toronto on July 8th, I was travelling west along Front st. and came at the cross intersection with another BLUE CUBE!  We waved, and stopped traffic at rush hour.  Was it another winner??

CUBE SPOTTINGS!

I took some snapshots of cube spotting in Toronto.  I commonly saw the cube being used as AUTO SHARE.  [I suppose it is a car pool system, or rental loan for people...?] Kensington Market and Queen East.Cube SpottingAllison Moore Cube spotting

Here are a few photos of my residency in Toronto with artist collaborator Arthur Desmarteaux.  Thank you to Graff Print Studios  in Montreal and all the great staff at  Open Studio for making this exchange possible. Also big thanks to the Canada Council of the Arts.  2 weeks went so fast!

Toronto Residency

CUBE FAKE in TORONTO!

I have a two-week residency at OPEN STUDIO in Toronto with artist collaborator Arthur Desmarteaux. The two of us are invited through an exchange with Atelier Graff in Montreal. We are making large-scale silkscreen prints. Images coming soon! Great studio space, nice community, and Toronto is awesome [street cars buzzing down Spadina, dumplings and kimchi in korea town, Kensington market and 5$ sushi lunches.] Visited the AGO new building by Frank Gehry.  [Free Wednesday night]

Unicorn Power

File under better late than never. Here are a couple of pics of my Montreal roadtrip roommates taken at the Toronto holiday Cubist meetup in December. 'younicorn' iPhone app produced the stunning results here. Rannie, Jasin and Mark look like superstars.

Live Music in Toronto

This post has absolutlely nothing to do with my Cube life.  In fact its about doing stuff that almost never involves driving (since I don't drive if there's a chance I might like a beer or two).

So what is it? Well, I am just blown away by the number of great shows in Toronto over the next little while.

Last night I was down at the Elmo (el Mocambo) to see Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros with openers Fool's Gold.  A great show and good time had by all. (I think this review is spot on - but didn't touch on how great the Talking Heads inspired Fool's Gold was).

On Sunday night I'm going to be checking out Big Pink at Lee's Palace.

On December 2nd The Friendly Fires are playing at the Phoenix. (I missed out on tix for that)

December 4th has got King Khan (IMHO Montreal's Garage Rock God) at Lee's.

Music To Cube To

There's alot of talent out there, so why not meet up with fellow talented people and document it.. oh wait that's what happened during the Cube contest. Meet Melanie Fiona, she's a Toronto singer that has her debut album "The Bridge" out on iTunes. Enjoy the video.
