Cube Community Extreme Makeover Edition
Submitted by Andre Molnar on February 12th, 2010
Whoa. Its been a while since I've blogged here. But, I've been keeping busy.
You may have noticed that Cube Community dot CA has gotten a face lift. I had a little to do with that and its one of the projects that's been keeping me busy lately.
What you'll notice:
- A brand new banner picture at the top.
- A brand new banner picture at the top you can play with. Try clicking on the arrows on the left and right edge of the banner. (fun huh?)
- An updated design that has more or less the same colour scheme as before, but used in a better way to define the space.
- A new featured section on the home page. (The link is in the blue part of the navigation at the top of the page)
- Rounded corners all over the place. (unless you're using Internet Explorer or an older browser - then you see sharp corners all over the place which can be cool too)
- Other stuff I may have forgotten to mention.
There are a few more minor tweaks that will be applied, but I think you'll agree that this look is much improved.
If you're curious a lot of what was achieved with the look of this site was done with CSS3. The good news is that while CSS3 is not an official standard yet, it is fairly well supported in most modern browsers (FireFox 3.x, Safari, Chrome). The other good news is that CSS3 allows you to achieve neat styling effects with very little effort compared to what you had to do to achieve the same things even a couple of years ago. The bad news is that Internet Explorer doesn't support many of the new styles.
With any new theme there are bound to be some glitches in the design. Some of them I know about, and others I may find eventually on my own. But, if you see something that is absolutely destroying your viewing experience leave a comment and I'll be sure to take a look at fixing it.

p.s. If you've got a banner design that you'd like to get into rotation, I'm sure that can be arranged. Ideally the banner should be 1000x228px. Email info@cubecommunity.ca if you've got something you want to share.

Insurance???
I don't know how your insurance company rates your Cube, but mine put it under "SUV-TRUCK", which I think puts it into a higher cost bracket.
Check on this and lets see if we can get it closer to a minivan rating. I think it would be a better representation of this style of vehicle! I know I'm sure as the hell not taking my cube on any off road places due to the clearance.

Wrong topic?
Larry, I think you may have posted this comment in a different area than you had intended.
Still, I'd say talk to your insurance broker because I don't think anyone is listed as SUV TRUCK. Some people are listed as van. Others as car or wagon. If you're paying a premium for that categorization you shouldn't be.
