My friends and I love getting out around the city. Attending events all over Toronto; be it photography, film, design, art or history (etc etc).

This past week was the Interior design show. We were lucky enough to get to more than a few events at the Metro Convention Center, the ROM and at the Gladstone Hotel.

At the Metro Convention Center there was the Interior Design Show. Lots to see, touch and take pics of! I'm proud to say that candian designers really stand out. I love that we are tactile people, we like things honest and real... things you want around you and that communicate more than just sleek and sexy. We have a sense of humor, a sense of story and a sense of history in most things we make... and you can see it whether you understand design or not. It was well worth checking out a show such as this.

At the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) they have the "Cut Copy Paste" show. It's a small showcase of Canadian designers using old materials and "upcycling" them. Instead of simply recycling the material, "Upcycling" means to reuse an item and turning it into something new like a chair, table, lamp etc etc. Another example of humor, history and function that Candian designers put forth. It's worth checking out. I like the hockey stick chairs and the smoke mittens, lol.

Next up we have the "Come up to my room" even at the Gladstone Hotel. An interesting event where they give rooms at the hotel to be decorated by upcoming designers and artsists. Using crazy materials and objects to redo, re-envison and really make your mind wonder, lol. I loved the mirror room and the comfy bed best, the bedroom with the trees and lanterns was very unique as well.

Next up is Advertising Week! I'm dying to see Art and Copy, a film/doc about the advertsiing industry. If you like documentaries, this would be a good one to checkout.
