School Art Show

I'm busy getting ready for our school district's annual art show which starts next weekend. I'm going to be displaying 5 easels of student work and have been busy the last few days going through a lot of the kids' work to choose the best pieces. It's great running a digital art class because all their work is saved right on my computer. This year I taught digital photography to all my grade sevens and eights and it's been so much fun. I love seeing the world through their lenses and listening to them talk about their photos. We also did several Photoshop projects including turning themselves into a Na'vi from the movie Avatar and creating their own original movie posters. I am consistently impressed by the what the students are able to do after only a short time learning how to use the program (I must be a great teacher!). A few students that i taught last year were inspired to purchase their own copy of Photoshop at home, and have come with some amazing skills this year! Next year will be the third and final year of implementing this Digital Visual Arts program in the school. I'm not sure if I should focus on doing more graphics in Photoshop, photo art, or start doing some video. The grade eights already do a Stopmotion animation project and really love that.

A big project I just finished was a 12-minute promotional video for my principal to show when he visits grade five classes for their transition to middle school. It was the biggest video project I've done yet, and I'm really proud of how it turned out. I got a great little actor from our school to play the tour guide and we featured all the amazing things about our school, including interactive smart boards in every classroom. The kids and teachers at the other schools loved it and parents were heard commenting that they wished they had gone to this school when they were young. :D Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be posting the video online

Really enjoy hearing about what you've got going on in your classroom. A lot of friends are teachers and if I didn't end up doing this I would have likely been a teacher too. But it's too bad that a lot of what you hear from teachers is anticipation for summer and complaining about kids. I'm sure you know. But it's super refreshing to hear about such a positive classroom and love for teaching.
Keep going.
