HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

in

1-Year Anniversary

Well, it's been a year now since I drove my brand new Nissan Cube right off the showroom floor! I've put just over 19,000 km on it in the last 12 months and repaired 3 stone chips in the windshield. I also added many accessories, including a chrome grill and side mirror covers, interior lighting kit, and shag carpeting. I still smile every time I see my car. I absolutely love it! I have thought about trading up, now that my year contract with Nissan is over, but I don't think I could honestly find another car that would bring me the same satisfaction that I get from my Cube! I've also noticed a lot more Cubes around town lately. Has anyone else noticed a lot more Cubes on the roads lately? It's fun to be part of this unique community and I always enjoy waving at my fellow Cubies and I hope they love their cars as much as I do! I recently stopped at the local Real Canadian Superstore and found another Cube parked right beside me! I just know the driver of this car is an awesome person!

I Made It

Today was the last day of school, and my grade 8 students are keeping the tradition that I started last year with a year-end music video. It's been an awesome year and there were some great kids that I'll miss. As you can see in this video, they've got great sense of humour and some pretty sweet skills. They wrote and recorded the song themselves and I edited the video for them. I've learned a lot more this year about editing using Final Cut Express. As always, there is a glimpse of my tricked out Nissan Cube. Let me know what you think of the video!

Go Canucks Go!

The kids in my Film Club have been at it again. They love making music videos, and this one was written, recorded, and edited by Keetyn, who is only in grade 7. This could be the last game for the Canucks tonight, but hopefully they can pull out a win and we'll get some more mileage out of all the hard work that went into it. The kid spent 5 hours at school on a Saturday to edit the video. I think he did a great job. Would love to hear your comments!

School Art Show

I'm busy getting ready for our school district's annual art show which starts next weekend. I'm going to be displaying 5 easels of student work and have been busy the last few days going through a lot of the kids' work to choose the best pieces. It's great running a digital art class because all their work is saved right on my computer. This year I taught digital photography to all my grade sevens and eights and it's been so much fun. I love seeing the world through their lenses and listening to them talk about their photos. We also did several Photoshop projects including turning themselves into a Na'vi from the movie Avatar and creating their own original movie posters. I am consistently impressed by the what the students are able to do after only a short time learning how to use the program (I must be a great teacher!). A few students that i taught last year were inspired to purchase their own copy of Photoshop at home, and have come with some amazing skills this year! Next year will be the third and final year of implementing this Digital Visual Arts program in the school.
